The project shall focus on understanding the importance of shared stories and expressiveness between a parent and a child, and will further explore how collaborative
storytelling between a can be used as a step towards emotional learning.

Personal Motivation
The basis of the project is through personal experience. As someone who has been struggling with anxiety for 7 years now, I relate to the said issue. Our society is still quite skeptical when it comes to emotional expression and therapy, with no fault of their own. As I started therapy, I realized that although a lot of issues stemmed from my childhood experiences, it prolonged because I never communicated the issues with my family. Communication lays the ground for a healthy mind and a healthy relationship. The foundation of an expressive relationship between a parent and a child should be set as early as possible. While growing up, although I felt I couldn’t express much, I related the most to the stories I was told and watched. The stories I heard stayed with me and impacted me in ways I realize only now. With this project I want the collaborative storytelling experience to be just as impactful but more engaging for children so that they find a way to communicate and express. Children as young as 3 years old start to show and verbalize a variety of emotions but by the age of 5 children start to be more involved and conversational, 7-10 years seems an apt age when using collaborative storytelling as a medium for emotional
learning.
